who am i
hello my name is joshua! I am a systems analyst / developer. In my free time, i mostly write code in rust (lately though i have been doing more stuff in python). For work, I deal with a number of programming languages, and build / deliver solutions for end users across the company. I currently am attending Western Michigan University, and am attempting to complete my undergrad degree.
I run this website, mostly so i can have a place where i actually own the things that i post, not facebook, or twitter. I think having a website is fun, but also a strong part of expressing your right to technology. I think everyone should have a website, even if you don’t use it like me. I think by owning, and running a website you will have a better way to communicate and share with others in a more personal way. Social media restricts the way that you can interact with people by a post, or a video, or a picture. Websites let you do whatever you want, how ever you want. Websites, are intended to be fun, and unique expressions reflecting your values, and interests.
fun facts about me
below i have listed things i probably havent listed on the internet, ruining my opsec. otherwise, you can click on each entry and it will expand with a little blerb containing more of my thoughts of mine.
i program (sometimes)
i make stuff in: [“rust”, “python”, “java”, “go”]. Im also ok with html and css, but would not enjoy making websites for a living.
i am a nerd
i get boring certificates that ill probably never use in the real world. Some certificates that i have: [“a+”, “crestron core”, “aws ccp”, “aws saa”]
i can pick locks
my first ever computer related job was as a technician for a company. We inherited a bunch of old cabinets + media carts, and we didnt have a locksmith to make new keys, so we had to pick the lock, or drill it out, then replace the lock with one we have a key to. I like to say i got my start in "physical pen testing" at this job as a joke. But in reality, when you work with computers, security is ever present and seeping through every aspect of your job.
some things I locks I have picked: [“trigger locks”, “cable gun locks”, “padlocks”, “laminated padlocks”, “luggage locks (keys only)”, “fire proof safe”]
my knowledge in terms of lock picking falls short of combination locks. I have a really shitty combination lock at work, that i have been able to get blindly (this thing is older than dirt, and has no grease on the wheels inside, so you can really feel the tension get tight when your near a combo number).
i love all things horror
i consume all types of things related to horror. I love the way that horror can make you feel uncomfortable. I think that being uncomfortable is a reminder that you are human. That you have empathy, and that you can feel things that are even not happening to you. Fear is a primal instinct that we all feel. Some of my favorite movies are as follows
- Audition (1999)
- Train to Busan (2016)
- Ju-on (2002)
- I saw the devil (2010)
i am interested in electronics and automation
I have mentored many (3) local FRC teams in kalamazoo. Id like to say that my interest in hobby electronics is what has driven me to learning to program. I have helped participate and mentor three separate teams in kalamazoo for the First Robotics Competition, as well as have helped compete and mentor for the Square One Education Network Autonomous Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge.
